About

Health, safety & environment

We put people’s safety first.

At BNQ Engineering, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our employees, clients, partners, subcontractors, and community members. We believe in creating a culture where safety is a collective responsibility, and we work together to identify hazards, discuss controls, and develop plans to ensure a safe working environment. Our commitment to health, safety, and the environment (HSE) is integral to our operations and aligns with our dedication to sustainability and excellence.

We strive to create an interdependent safety culture where safety is a team effort.

We proactively discuss the prevention of injuries and losses, equip our people with the knowledge and tools they need to work safely, and recognize that safety is crucial everywhere, not just at work. Our Safe Work Practices help our teams identify hazards and implement the necessary controls, ensuring that safety is at the forefront of all our activities.

Empowering Employees
We empower our employees by providing them with the resources, training, and authority to manage risks in dynamic work environments. Every employee has the authority to stop work immediately if they identify an unsafe act or condition, or if they are not confident in the work plan. This Stop Work Authority is a critical component of our safety culture, reinforcing our commitment to preventing incidents before they occur.

Health and Well-being
Supporting the health and well-being of our employees is a top priority. We provide resources to help manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other conditions that may affect overall well-being. Our comprehensive wellness programs promote physical, mental, and emotional health, ensuring our employees are supported both at work and at home.

Proactive Safety Measures
We take a proactive approach to safety, using leading indicators such as observations, inspections, and hazard identification to support our safety culture and identify opportunities for improvement. If an incident occurs, we have processes in place to investigate and communicate lessons learned to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Environmental Stewardship
BNQ Engineering is committed to conducting business in ways that contribute to an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable future. We monitor compliance with international standards and incorporate environmentally-friendly practices that engage and motivate employees to be good stewards of the environment. Our projects are designed to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.

Risk assessment and management

Our Last Minute Risk Assessment encourages employees to stop and think before starting a new task or when there’s a change in work scope or environment. Employees are trained to identify new hazards, assess potential impacts, and implement controls to eliminate or manage risks. This deliberate situational assessment ensures that safety is always considered before work begins or resumes.
